Matthew 26:36-42 – 36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he told the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 Taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 He said to them, “I am deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He asked Peter, “So, couldn’t you stay awake with me one hour? 41 Stay awake and pray, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, a second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”

SERMON TITLE: “UNSTOPPABLE UNDER PRESSURE”

Matthew 26:38 - 38 He said to them, “I am deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.”

1. MISSING THE *HUMANITY OF JESUS ROBS US OF THE COMPLETE *REVELATION OF HIS *VICTORY

Hebrews 4:15 - 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.

2. JESUS DIDN’T JUST FEEL THE *WEIGHT OF THE *CROSS BUT THE *BURDEN OF THE *CUP

Matthew 26:39 – 39 Going a little farther, he fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 – 21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

3. JESUS WASN’T *WAVERING IN THE GARDEN, HE WAS *SUBMITTING WHAT WE DIDN’T

Matthew 26:42 – 42 Again, a second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”

Philippians 2:7-8 – 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross.
