SERMON TITLE: “A MODEL OF PRAYER”
1. GOD IS ABOVE ME AND WITH ME AT THE SAME TIME
Matthew 6:9 NKJV - 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Isaiah 55:8-9 - 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.”This is the Lord’s declaration. 9 “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Matthew 6:8 - 8 Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him.
2. I HAVE TO SUBMIT MY WILL AND EMBRACE HIS
Matthew 6:10-11 NKJV - 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
3. GOD DOESN’T JUST WANT TO HEAR FROM ME BUT DELIVER ME
Matthew 6:12-13 NKJV - 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
Psalms 139:23-24 - 'Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.
Luke 22:31-32 - 31 “Simon, Simon, look out. Satan has asked to sift you like wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
4. THE PRAYER ISN’T THE MODEL, JESUS IS
Luke 11:1 CSB - 1 He was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”
Luke 5:16 - 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Hebrews 5:7 - 7 During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
Luke 22:42 - 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
PRAYER IS A PRIVILEGE
Hebrews 7:24-25 - 'But because he remains forever, he holds his priesthood permanently. Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them.
